I had the pleasure of attending the "ACWT - His & Hers" spoken word event on September 30, 2023, and it was truly a remarkable experience. This unique event, held at Actors East in London, combined the power of spoken word with the depth of theatre, creating a captivating and emotionally charged evening.

Have you ever seen the infamous "Hurt bae" video? This event's concept was beautifully summarised as a spoken word version of "Hurt bae," and it did not disappoint.  It was a place where you get an all-access pass into the chaotic world of breakups and pain – but with a twist! Whether you're a die-hard spoken word fanatic or a theatre lover, this event had it all.

The performances by PoetryByTony, Grace, Roxy, Dominic, Vilma, and Tiffany were nothing short of breathtaking. They took the stage and spilled their hearts out with poetic fervour. It was as if their words reached deep into the audience's souls, and their raw vulnerability was both touching and strangely relatable.  It was clear that they had lived through the highs and lows of romantic relationships, and their storytelling was a testament to the beautifully weird human experience.

What made this event particularly impactful was the way it explored the weird disconnect and miscommunication that often exists in matters of the heart. The characters never directly confronted those who had hurt them, creating a strange yet captivating emotional puzzle. But it all ended on an oddly hopeful note, with a monologue that left everyone feeling strangely optimistic about the weirdness of love.

One aspect that added depth to the event was the Q & A session with the performers. It was like peering into the minds of these talented oddballs, discovering what inspires their wonderful creations.  It was a rare opportunity to connect with the creators behind these beautiful and vulnerable pieces, unlocking some of the mysteries.

Overall, "ACWT - His & Hers" was a truly emotive and thought-provoking experience. It left a lasting impression, an indelible mark, leaving me eagerly anticipating more PoetryByTony events in the future. This event was a testament to the power of spoken word poetry to convey the complexities of human emotions and relationships. It was an evening filled with creativity, vulnerability, and storytelling at its finest.
